IEC 61290-1-2:2026 pdf download,Optical amplifiers – Test methods – Part 1-2: Power and gain parameters – Electrical spectrum analyzer method.
IEC 61290-1-2:2026 is pertinent to all commercially available optical amplifiers (OAs) and optically amplified sub-systems. It encompasses optical amplifiers utilizing optically pumped fibers (such as rare-earth doped fibers or those based on the Raman effect), semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs), and planar optical waveguides (POWAs). However, this document does not cover polarization-maintaining optical amplifiers.
The document sets forth standardized requirements for conducting accurate and reliable measurements of various OA parameters using the electrical spectrum analyzer testing method as outlined in IEC 61291-1, Clause 3. The parameters defined include:
a) nominal output signal power;
b) gain;
c) reverse gain;
d) maximum gain;
e) polarization-dependent gain.
Additionally, this testing method allows for the measurement of:
- maximum gain wavelength;
- gain wavelength band.
This standard specifically addresses single-channel amplifiers. For multichannel amplifiers, references to the IEC 61290-10 series should be consulted.
NOTE 1: The applicability of the testing methods discussed in this document to distributed Raman amplifiers is under further investigation.
NOTE 2: A testing method for polarization-maintaining optical amplifiers is also subject to further study.
This third edition supersedes the second edition published in 2005 and serves as a technical revision. Significant updates in this edition compared to the previous version include:
a) enhanced information regarding the applicability of the document to its scope;
b) alignment of the scope with the IEC 61290-1 series;
c) inclusion of safety recommendations in Clauses 4 and 5;
d) correction of an error in Clause 7, item e);
e) the term “wavelength measurement accuracy” has been replaced with “wavelength accuracy.”
