IEC 62841-4-11:2026 pdf download,Electric motor-operated hand-held tools, transportable tools and lawn and garden machinery – Safety – Part 4-11: Particular requirements for edgers.

IEC 62841-4-11:2026 specifies particular safety requirements for electric motor-operated edgers, supplementing the general requirements of IEC 62841-1:2014 and its 2025 amendment. It addresses hazards encountered during normal use and reasonably foreseeable misuse of machines designed to cut grass edges and similar vegetation.

The standard applies to hand-held edgers with at least one ground support, and to walk-behind or walk-beside edgers whose blade-tip circle operates at no more than 15° from the vertical. Covered machines have a blade-tip circle diameter not exceeding 305 mm and use a cutting accessory, or pivotally mounted cutting elements whose individual kinetic energy exceeds 10 J. Lower-energy machines are treated as lawn edge trimmers under IEC 62841-4-4.

Requirements focus on preventing injury from rotating blades and projected objects. They address blade guards, barriers, deflectors, supports, handles, operator controls, prevention of unintentional starting, stopping mechanisms, structural strength, blade retention, and resistance to foreseeable impacts. Electrical safety, insulation, moisture protection, battery operation where applicable, markings, warnings, and operating instructions are also covered. Noise and vibration measurement requirements may support evaluation of user exposure.

The standard excludes lawn trimmers, grass trimmers, brush cutters, brush saws, scissor-type edgers, and machines fitted with multi-piece metallic cutting accessories such as chains or flail blades. Overall, it promotes safer design, testing, labeling, maintenance, and operation of transportable and hand-held electric edgers.
